A few reminders...
Kia Ora Room 12 Whanau!
Hope you are all keeping warm and well as the cold weather creeps in on us!
Here's just a few wee reminders about some things that are happening at the moment =)
Science Alive - Remember that the $5 for this is due by Monday 22nd June. Thank you for the parent helpers who have volunteered, we now have enough.
Spellathon - Well done everyone for your amazing effort with this! I was very proud of hard you all worked. Please remember that the sponsorship money for this is now due. Your child has a copy of their test in their homework book so you know their results. It would be great to have this in as quickly as possible.
Miss Newfield - Miss Newfield has been working hard in Room 12! We have been loving having her. Next Friday will be her last day with us. I know all the children will miss her a lot.
Homework Books - Please make sure your children are bringing these to school everyday. It makes it hard to do things that we need to, when children do not have their books. Also please make sure they are bringing their Poetry Scrap books to school.
A big thank you to those who have already bought the stationery they need. There are quite a few children who are needing new books at the moment, so look out for notes in their homework books.
Keep up the wonderful work!

Exciting Writing Happening in Room 12 and 13!
Room 12 and 13 have started doing their shared writing times together. Mrs H and Ms de Thier take turns teaching us. This week Mrs H bought a Tiger Skin in to show us. It is a family heirloom. We were surprised at how big it was! It was faded a lot, we expected it to be bright orange. We are going to use what we learnt to write exciting information reports about Tigers.
Youth Town Sports
We have been loving our sessions with the Youth Town Sport Leaders. We have so much fun with them! At the moment they are teaching us about hockey. We are learning about the equipment that you use to play, as well as the skills. Here are some photos of our nice afternoon in the sun!

Special sharing time this morning
We had a very special sharing time in Room 12 this morning. Seb bought in his new baby brother, Freddy, to introduce to us all. He is six weeks old today and very cute! Room 12 thought of some great questions to ask Natasha, Ferg and Seb. Thanks for bringing him to meet us!
Welcome Miss Newfield!

Geometry Learning In Room 12
We have been doing lots of work on Geometry in Room 12 Interchange. We have been learning all about 2D and 3D shapes, as well as symmetry. We made a classroom display to help us find out the names of all the shapes, and how many sides, faces and corners. We have been doing lots of fun hands on activities. Our favourite has been making shapes using toothpicks and marshmallows.

Chocolate Chip Cookies
Hello, this is Room 12! In writing we are learning how to write instructions. Yesterday Mrs H gave us a mixed up recipe for chocolate chip cookies. We had to put the recipe in the right order. We decided that maybe we would like to make these cookies at home because they sounded soooo yummy! Here is the recipe:
Chocolate Chip Cookies
Ingredients:
125g butter
1/2 cup brown sugar (lightly packed)
1/2 cup caster sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla essence
1 egg
1 3/4 cups of flour
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup chocolate chunks or chips
Method:
1. Preheat the oven to bake at 180
2. Grease or line two baking trays with baking paper
3. Beat butter, sugars, and vanilla until pale and creamy
4. Add egg and beat until mixed in
5. Sift in the flour and salt, mix until combined
6. Add in the chocolate chips
7. Roll heaped teaspoon size balls and place on the tray - press down with a floured fork
8. Bake for approx. 12 minutes
