Mr Fox has organised for us all to have golf lessons. We will be having these on Tuesday mornings for the next few weeks. Here we are this morning during our first lesson.
Welcome to the Room 12 Blog! We are a class of year 3 and 4 children at Parkview School in Christchurch, New Zealand. Our teacher is Mrs Haythornthwaite.

Week 5 in Room 12
What's happening this week in Room 12?
Writing: Ms de Thier is leading our writing this week and we are working on recounts
Maths: This week we are finishing off our Statistics unit by looking at probability
Reading: Thank you to everyone who has bought our green homework journals from the office. This week our big book is about the life cycle of a frog. Has anyone had tadpoles at home before?
3 way conferences: Remember that school will be finishing at 2 o'clock on Wednesday and Thursday this week for our 3 way meetings. I look forward to catching up with you all!
Some of the getting to know you sheets from the beginning of the year came back with no name so I am unsure who they belong to. If you think this may have been you I would love for you to pop in and check.
Hope you all have a wonderful week!

Fit for Life Friday
On Friday of week three we had lots of fun at our school wide Inquiry launch day. The whole school got to watch the movie 'Inside Out' to help set the scene for our learning about emotions, and how they effect our wellbeing. We all had a lot of fun watching it together in the hall.
Our buddy class doesn't exist, as the Room 2 children have not yet started school. So we had our lunch on the field with Room 13 and Room 1.
We all bought a piece of fruit to share, and we made really yummy fruit kebabs. We had so much fruit that we got to have left overs for brain food the next week. Thank you to all our wonderful families who helped make this happen.

We have been adding our learning to our Inquiry journal and wall. We would love for you to come and see what we have been doing!
Here are some photos of our fun day!

Welcome to Room 12 - 2016!
Kia
ora koutou Parkview whanau!
My
name is Fiona Haythornthwaite. This is my second year teaching as part of the Parkview
community, and I am loving it! My husband and I have been married for four
years, we don’t as yet have any children, but we do have two fur babies! Darcy
and Poppy are very energetic and keep us busy.
I enjoy spending time at the beach and forest with them. My other hobbies include reading, sewing,
cooking, baking, Zumba, spending time with family and shopping!
Day to Day:
Our
Inquiry for the year is ‘Fit for life – Healthy bodies, happy minds’ with our
term one focus being ‘Making a difference’ - A very important one that I am
excited to explore with your children. We will engage in daily reading, writing
and math, and as the term progresses we will begin to interchange and work
closely with Room 13. Matua Rihari will join us for our Te Reo Māori lessons,
and we are also very lucky to have Youthtown Sport coaching back this year.
Homework:
The
Reading Log that you have purchased from the school office will be our
communication books. Each week your child will receive 5-10 spelling words
based on the essential list, these will come home in this book on a Monday, to
then be tested on a Friday. Your child will bring home a booklet with some
ideas on how they can practice these. They will also bring home a reading book
from Mon-Thurs, as well as a poem on Friday. It would be great if you could
fill out the daily reading log box with them. Sometimes there will be other wee
homework tasks, which will be given in Reading Log, or Reading folder. All
notices will be sent home in the reading folder. It is important that this
comes to school everyday along with the Reading Log.
Class Blog:
Our class blog address is http://roomtwelveparkview.blogspot.co.nz/ This is something that I love doing, and involving the children in. This is where I will put lots of updates and photos of what we get up to in class. Here, I will fill you in on what is going to be happening in the week ahead as far as writing, reading and maths goes. I will also add some websites that you can use to support your children’s learning. Where possible I will upload digital copies of newsletters etc in case they mysteriously fall out of reading folders like they always seem to! This is also where we will celebrate successes. It’s a great way to catch up with what we have been doing in the classroom.
